About Property

This beautiful 276 sqm home was originally the olive press in the quiet traditional village of Embrosneros (locally pronounced as 'Bronero') in the low foothills of the White Mountains. Oil from this region is renowned for its clarity and flavour, and there are many many other reasons why this is a wonderful place to live, this fine home being only one of them!!

Perhaps one of the first things that one notices when visiting this home is the absence of noise, or shall we say one can hear sounds of nature without the noise of humanity. Embrosneros is a place for those seeking the quiet and peaceful village life as opposed to the hustle and bustle of the touristy towns and beaches in Crete. Just visit the village bakery or kafenion to get a feel for the local hospitality. Then relax on the veranda and watch as the colours of the mountains slowly change with passage of time and enjoy the sights and sounds of the local birds, not just the common sparrows and warblers but also the eagles and buzzards for which the mountains provide an excellent remote habitat.
This home was tastefully restored into a beautiful residence that perfectly suits it position in the village and with the surrounding countryside. It has been uniquely designed to be suitable either as a single residence or as two private residences, each with two spacious bedrooms and each with broad verandas to take advantage of the magnificent views.
The 1,348 sqm property is completely bounded by a stone wall and fencing at the rear. Entry is via a private gated driveway reaching the huge southwest-facing covered entry veranda. From this area (if you can tear yourself away from the views and the serenity that this veranda offers), a doorway leads to the spacious, modern and fully-equipped kitchen and a pleasant eating area overlooking the main sitting room. The light and airy sitting room has French doors leading to yet another broad veranda with more excellent view, plenty of comfortable seating, and a high-efficiency wood burning heater. The owners have installed a concrete base for a spa or gazebo should the new owners wish to add.
There are two double-bedrooms on this level, one of which is currently being used as a study. The fitted wardrobes have been made to the highest quality. There is also a large full bathroom with a shower stall and also houses the washing machine and linen storage. One of the bedrooms has French doors leading to a private veranda with stunning mountain and countryside views.
A separate external entry to the home (from the garden area on the south side) leads to an entry hall with a doorway to the ground floor and an internal staircase leading to an entry landing on the first floor, again through a doorway. In this way, access to the first floor can be, if desired, kept separate from the ground floor.
The atmosphere of the first floor is dominated by the beautiful and warm wood-beamed pitched roof virtually throughout as can be seen in the photographs. Entry from the staircase is into a large open-plan kitchen, dining area, and sitting room with French doors leading to the broad L-shaped veranda offering amazing views from the north toward the sea through the west to the south toward the White Mountains. The huge master bedroom on this level also has access via French doors to this veranda. The second bedroom also has a private veranda. There is a huge full bath and shower room on this level.
Most of the outside areas have been landscaped for low maintenance and to fit in with the surrounding countryside. There is a very pleasant shaded sitting area in the garden … the perfect place to enjoy the breeze rustling through the pines and an evening glass of local wine.
The home has high quality underfloor heating (eco-electric) which is very economical to run. And each bedroom has an imported ceiling fan to take the edge off our rare warm evenings. Humidity is much less of a problem in this area due to its altitude (about 250 m).
In keeping with the very traditional design of the villa's exterior, the windows and external doors are all of well-treated pine with double-glazed glass. Stone features also add to the harmony with the home's environment, and the beautiful stone “picture window” on the entry terrace is as striking as it is pleasing to the eyes.
The village plateia with its fragrant traditional bakery, mini-market, kafenion, and a superb taverna is but a short walk from the home. The riverside village of Vrysses with its many tavernas, kafenions, supermarket, bank, and more is just a short drive (about 3 km), and the beaches at Georgioupolis are just 12-15 minutes away (about 10 km) by car.
Virtually everything is included in the price. The home is ready to move into and enjoy immediately!
This is genuinely a must-see property. Photos can not convey its beauty and serenity.
The selling price is exclusive of property transfer tax, legal expenses and agency fees.
